Women's lacrosse, sometimes shortened to wlax or lax, is a non-contact sport played with twelve players on each team. Originally played by the indigenous peoples of the Americas, the modern women's game was introduced in 1890 at the St Leonards School in Scotland. The rules of women's lacrosse differ significantly from men's field lacrosse.

The following introduction to the game of men's lacrosse is derived from an overview of the game courtesy of US Lacrosse:

Overview/Rules:

Men's lacrosse is a contact game played by ten players: a goalie, three defensemen, three midfielders and three attackmen. The object of the game is to shoot the ball into the opponent's goal. The team scoring the most goals wins.
